With all the speculation about how Ragen plans to spin her impending IRONMAN® 70.3® attempt in October, we thought it would be appropriate to go over some of her previous athletic history. We all know Ragen likes to start things and then drop them as soon as they get difficult. It applies to her business matters, weight loss attempts, and crowdfunded activism. Does it extend to her elite athletics? As it turns out, yes it does.
Back in 2002 when Ragen was peddling Advocare and at her lowest ever adult weight, she planned to enter a 1 mile race, 3K, 5K, and the Capitol 10K. There is no record she entered any of these races, and her abysmal 1:09:50 5K personal record in 2013 is referred to as “my first official 5K“.
Moving on to 2004, Ragen again planned to enter the Capitol 10K. She mentioned it once more in a single training update, then never talked about it again. Records show she never entered.
Still in 2004, Ragen posted about signing up for a “muddy buddy” (a tough mudder style mud race). A few weeks later she dropped out.
In 2005, Ragen declared she would be a professional “Masters Champion” dancer. Records show she attempted to compete in the intermediate division above the noncompetitive and first time amateur levels where she obtained her “national dance championship” titles. She came in last place in every competition, started calling herself a “professional dancer”, and stopped dancing competitively.
In 2014, Ragen announced she would be entering the 2015 LA Marathon. After 7 months of non-updates about her training, she dropped out for a completely farcical reason documented on this very blog.
It’s now 2015, and in 3 months, 23 days, Ragen claims she will be swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles, and running 13.1 miles in under 8-1/2 hours despite having no experience swimming in open water and being unable to ride her bike or run. Will Ragen take advantage of the full refund and add this event to her growing list of athletics dropouts, or does she have something else up her sleeve?
